Concert by the Austin band Hot Club of Cowtown, a fusion of western swing and hot jazz.
Hot Club of Cowtown are back at the Continental Club on Wednesday, September 16, for a night that puts their whole range on display. It's a local band playing one of the city's most familiar rooms, and the set draws from a new record that's as eclectic as they are.
That record is LIMELIGHT, which came out June 17, 2025. It's an eleven-song collection that pulls from a few different worlds at once: cowboy tunes, hot jazz, a Roma folk song, and a waltz for Lupa. The songs come from both sides of the Atlantic, with Jimmie Rodgers and Marty Robbins on the American side and Joe Venuti, Bob Wills, and Django Reinhardt on the other. It's the kind of record where a country standard can sit right next to a Gypsy jazz piece without it feeling like two different bands.
Underneath that variety, the sound is held together by three-part harmonies, some pretty fast-fingered virtuosity, and what they call their signature joie de vivre—that sense of genuine fun that comes through when a band is just having a good time on stage. It's western swing and hot jazz meeting in the middle, and they've made a career out of keeping both traditions alive and dancing.

This is part of a wider US tour, and they're making a habit of the Continental Club this month: if you can't make this one, they're back at the same venue on September 23 and September 30. The show runs from 6:30 to 9 PM.
