Concert by the Austin-based western swing and hot jazz trio Hot Club of Cowtown, featuring violin, guitar and upright bass.
Hot Club of Cowtown play the Continental Club on Wednesday, September 23, from 6:30 to 9 PM. It's a home-turf show for the Austin-based trio, who've been playing together for more than 15 years and have a dozen albums behind them.
\nTheir sound is a cross between western swing and hot jazz, and you can hear where it comes from. They draw as much from the 1930s and 40s Parisian gypsy string jazz of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli as from the hillbilly fiddlers of Oklahoma and Texas. On stage they stick to classic gear, including a 1925 Gibson acoustic guitar and a 1937 Gibson amp, and they build their sound on three-part harmonies, virtuosity, and what they call an unabashed joie de vivre.
On November 13, 2025, the band was inducted into the International Western Music Association's Hall of Fame. Their latest release, Limelight, came out June 17, 2025, and gathers eleven eclectic standards, cowboy tunes, hot jazz, a Roma folk song, and a waltz for Lupa. The record features songs by Jimmie Rodgers, Marty Robbins, Joe Venuti, Bob Wills, and Django Reinhardt.
