Live music session by Hip Stir at Central Market South, a venue known for eclectic live performances.
Hip Stir play Central Market South on Sunday, August 23, starting at 11 AM. It's a midday set, so you can catch it and still have the rest of your Sunday open.
If you've never been, Central Market South is at 4477 S. Lamar, and it's a bit of a local oddity. It opened in 1999 as the chain's second homegrown location and leaned into the South Austin funkiness of its neighborhood, building a calendar even more eclectic than that of its elder sibling. The bookings run from Western swing and bluegrass to jazz and Latin rock, and the stage has also hosted the local scene championed by White Ghost Shivers. Live music runs four days a week, always free of charge, and the music shares space with a deli and sandwich shop and the store's groceries. The venue was an Austin Chronicle Critics Pick for Best Welcome To The Neighborhood in 2000 and for Best Sugar Nostalgia in 2015.

That's the kind of place where you can grab a sandwich from the deli and listen to a band while you do your grocery shopping, or just hang out for the music. Hip Stir takes the stage for this one, and since it's a Sunday morning slot, it's an easy way to spend part of your weekend without having to commit to a late night. The set starts at 11 AM, and admission is free.
