HEAPS: Hide and Seek Reimagined

Density512 is taking over Regal Rooms this weekend with HEAPS: Hide and Seek Reimagined, a project that stretches Imogen Heap's Hide and Seek into a 50-minute soundscape. If you know the original, you know it as a short, haunting piece of vocal layering; this version pulls it apart and builds it back up into something much larger, written for choir, orchestra, electronics, and live vocals.

Composer Zachary James Ritter is the one behind the reimagining. He's taking that single song and expanding it into a full-length piece, and he's performing the electronics live on stage. Density512, Austin's contemporary chamber orchestra, handles the orchestral side, joined by the Austin Cantorum on choir. It's a big ensemble for a single song, and the whole thing is presented with the ensemble's signature immersive concert design, put together in partnership with Regal Rooms.

The project is supported in part by an Austin Live Music Fund Grant from Austin Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment. It's a local production through and through, with a local orchestra and a local choir bringing a song most of us know from a recording into a live room.

There are three performances to choose from: Friday, September 25 at 8 PM, and Saturday, September 26 at both 5 PM and 8 PM. All three are at Regal Rooms in Austin.
