Gospel Stars bring their gospel brunch to Stubb's on Sunday, September 6, 2026. It's part of the Gospel Brunch series, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
If you've spent any time around the Austin music scene, you know the lineage this series steps into. Stubb's took up the mantle in 1999 after Liberty Lunch closed, and Liberty Lunch had been the local successor to the Armadillo World Headquarters. The venue itself takes its name and its recipes from Christopher 'Stubb' Stubblefield, the legendary Lubbock cook who opened the first Stubb's in his hometown back in 1968. It's a dual-level space and a celebrated barbecue joint, with indoor and outdoor stages—the outdoor one can hold upward of 2,000 people and has hosted acts as big as Bob Dylan and Metallica. Booking is handled by C3 Presents co-founder Charles Attal and ACL Fest talent doyenne Amy Corbin.
The Gospel Brunch is one of those Austin traditions that works because it combines two things the city does well: gospel music and barbecue. The series has been running for two decades now, and this particular Sunday features Gospel Stars taking the stage. It's a morning affair, so you'll be getting your music and your meal in one go.
