Glitter & Gossip Social

Del Shores and Emerson Collins are headlining the Glitter & Gossip Social on Sunday, September 6, at the Austin Rainbow Theatre. It's the theatre's annual fundraiser, and this year it doubles as a celebration of the regional premiere of The Recipe Box, Shores' newest play.

If you aren't familiar with the name, Shores is one of the defining voices of Southern queer stories. He's best known for Sordid Lives, Southern Baptist Sissies, and Daddy's Dyin'... Who's Got the Will?—plays that built his reputation on dark comedy, outrageous family dysfunction, and a streak of heartfelt honesty. That work has been brought to the stage by a long list of names: Leslie Jordan, Olivia Newton-John, Bonnie Bedelia, Delta Burke, Caroline Rhea, Beth Grant, Rue McClanahan, Beau Bridges, and Whoopi Goldberg.

The Recipe Box follows a gay couple navigating the end of their marriage, with one husband finding himself living with his former mother-in-law—a gambling-addicted Southern firecracker. Emerson Collins stars in the play, and both he and Shores will be at the social as guest artists. Shores is also directing the production.

The social runs from 1 to 4 PM on Sunday, September 6, at the Ground Floor Theatre, 979 Springdale Rd #122, Austin, TX 78702. It's a Southern-inspired brunch that benefits the Austin Rainbow Theatre, with Shores and Collins as the main feature.
