Girl Guitar

Girl Guitar is playing at Antone's on Sunday, August 23, with the show starting at 2 PM and doors opening at 1:30 PM. It's a showcase for the students of Girl Guitar Austin, the city's original rock 'n' roll, guitar and songwriting school for women.

If you haven't come across them before, the school is built around a mix of group classes and private lessons. The group side covers band, acoustic and electric guitar, songwriting, and vocal and harmony. On the private side, they offer acoustic and electric guitar, drums, songwriting, and recording and production using Logic Pro and GarageBand. It's a wide range of instruction—everything from the basics of picking up a guitar to the more technical side of recording and production—and they welcome all ages, so you'll see a real mix of students on the bill.

They've been getting some local recognition lately, too: Girl Guitar Austin was voted Best Music Instruction at the 2026 Austin Music Awards. A showcase like this is essentially the school's students taking what they've been working on in class and bringing it to a stage, so you'll hear a variety of levels and styles in one afternoon.

It's a Sunday matinee, which makes it an easy one to fit in without staying out late. The show is at Antone's, the historic blues club on 4th Street. Doors open at 1:30 PM and the music starts at 2 PM.
