Gawshock headlines the Alley Bar at Brushy Street Commons on Thursday, August 20, with Dead Sullivan, Shallowater, and Amelia's Best Friend. The whole night is built around slowcore, a genre one critic called the only reasonable solution to the summer doldrums.
Gawshock comes from Huntsville, Alabama. The lo-fi melodic sound is the brainchild of David Broome, who plays it live as a quartet. The supporting acts are all Texas-based and lean toward the somber: Dead Sullivan, whose latest single experiments with distortion-heavy rhythms; the country-inflected Amelia's Best Friend; and Shallowater, who describe themselves as quiet-gone-loud philosophers. Between the four, you'll get a full run of the slowcore spectrum, from the lo-fi melodies of the headliner to the distortion and country leanings of the openers.
