Halloween event for all ages with costumes, creature demonstrations, trick-or-treating at Fortlandia and a costume contest.
Frightlandia is coming to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center on Sunday, October 25, from 10 AM to 1 PM. It's a Halloween event for all ages, so it's one of those mornings you can bring the whole family along. Costumes are encouraged, and there's a costume contest in the mix, so if you've been working on something for October, this is a good place to show it off.
Beyond the costumes, the morning includes creature demonstrations and trick-or-treating at Fortlandia. The creature demonstrations are a nice touch for a botanical garden setting, and the trick-or-treating gives the kids something to work toward while you're there. Since it's an all-ages event, it works as a low-stakes way to get the Halloween spirit going before the actual holiday.
It helps to know where you're heading. The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is a botanical garden dedicated to native plant conservation, open to the public year-round and part of The University of Texas at Austin. It was planted in 1982 by Lady Bird Johnson and Helen Hayes, became part of the university in 2006, and is now nationally known for its work in plant conservation, ecosystem design, native plants, sustainable landscapes, and education. The campus brings together native plant gardens, the Texas Arboretum, and the Luci and Ian Family Garden.
