Frederico7 brings his new album, Brasileirôu, to The Rosette on Sunday, August 23. It's an album release show, so the set will center on the new material, which blends Brazilian soul, MPB, and Afro-Brazilian rhythms.
Frederico7 is an Austin-based artist who's spent roughly half his life in Brazil and half here in Austin. He describes the album title, Brasileirôu, as a verb that means to embody his Brazilian roots wherever he goes—a theme that took on a particular weight after he lost his mother about three years ago. The project pulls together Austin musicians and established Brazilian artists, and the album artwork was created by his wife, Vivienne Joy Forte; her design features a portal that Frederico7 calls "this portal."
If you've been following the local scene for a while, you might recognize him as a longtime friend of We Are Austin. This show is the first time Brasileirôu will be played out in full, so it's the best chance to hear the record as a whole rather than in pieces. The music sits at the intersection of Brazilian soul and MPB, with those Afro-Brazilian rhythms running through it.
