Introductory workshop on clown makeup basics led by Fousticuffs of Fou Fou Ha! Austin, covering layering, product stacking and creative expression.
Fou Fou Ha! is hosting a clown makeup workshop at Coco Coquette on Sunday, August 23, from 5 PM to 7 PM. The two-hour session is led by Fousticuffs, part of Fou Fou Ha! Austin, the city's chapter of the National Clown Troupe. They're billing this one as "painting the soul's house: a transformational painting ritual."
It's a follow-up to a previous "Clown Makeup Basics" workshop, so it doesn't start from zero. The session opens with a speed round for anyone who missed the first one, then moves into layering, product stacking, and how different mediums create dimension, durability, and drama. You'll be working with powders, liners, cakes, creams, fluids, and glitter, and the idea is to rethink and repurpose your own features rather than cover them up. The focus is more on working with what you've got than hiding it.
It's a small class with limited tickets, so it'll be a tight group. Tickets are non-refundable, but you can transfer yours to a friend if you can't make it. If you're planning to do both workshops, there's a $10 discount when you book them together.

Before you head over, there are a few things to bring: your own brushes, whatever makeup you already own, and one or two reference images to work from. The workshop runs from 5 PM to 7 PM at Coco Coquette.
