A hands-on repair session where volunteers teach practical repair skills for household items like clothing, appliances and toys.
The Fix-It Clinic is coming to the Turner-Roberts Recreation Center on Saturday, September 19, from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM. It's a hands-on repair session where you bring in the broken household items you've been meaning to deal with—a torn shirt, a faulty blender, a worn-out toy—and work with expert volunteers to get them back in shape. The whole thing is free of charge.
The point here isn't just to walk away with a mended object. The clinic is set up so you actually learn how to do the repair yourself, rather than just handing your stuff over to someone else and picking it up later. You'll be working alongside the volunteers, so you get to see exactly how the fix works and pick up some practical skills you can use the next time something breaks around the house.
It's a good fit for a few different kinds of things. If you've got a piece of clothing with a rip you've never known how to sew, a small appliance that stopped working for no obvious reason, or a favorite toy that's seen better days, this is the place to bring them. Since the volunteers cover a range of items, you can bring a few different things at once and spend the afternoon working through them.
