Free weekly yoga sessions held every Friday morning at Zilker Park, with an optional cold plunge into Barton Springs afterwards.
Fitness in the Park is bringing its Summer Yoga Series back to Zilker Park this season, with sessions running every Friday from May 29 through September 4. The classes go from 7:00 to 8:05 in the morning, so you're done and on your way before the Austin heat really settles in. The series is presented by the Austin Parks Foundation and Habitat Retreats.
Each session is open to all levels, which is the good part—you don't need to be a regular at the studio to join in. The practice pairs movement with one of the city's best morning views, and since it's out in the park, you're moving with the sunrise rather than under fluorescent lights. It's the kind of thing that works just as well if you're there to get a proper workout as if you're just looking for a quiet way to start your Friday.
There's a local favorite tacked onto the end: once the yoga is wrapped, you can take an optional cold plunge into Barton Springs. It's a classic Austin move—cooling off in the spring after you've warmed up on the mat. If you're not feeling the dip, you can just stick to the yoga and head home, but having the option is there if you want it.

On the practical side, the classes are free, but you do need to RSVP to take part. You'll also need to bring your own yoga mat, water, and a towel. The sessions run every Friday from May 29 to September 4, 7:00 to 8:05 AM, at Zilker Park, 2100 Barton Springs Rd.
