Austin's largest independent book fair with author signings, bookstores, crafts, and activities in the brewery's beer garden.
Meanwhile Brewing Company is hosting the fifth annual Lagers & Literature on Sunday, September 6, from 11 AM to 4 PM. It's the brewery's adult book fair, held in their beer garden, and it's billed as Austin's largest independent book fair. The day is the culmination of a summer-long community book drive and weekly book swaps run with the nonprofit Inside Books Project, which sends books to prisoners across Texas.
The charitable anchor of the day is the brewery's seasonal Bookworm beer, a 4.5% ABV coffee cream ale whose proceeds go to Inside Books Project and The Library Foundation. The partnership has taken on a new urgency this year: on April 1, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice tightened rules on donated books and magazines to reduce contraband, which has slowed the number of books coming in. This edition adds a playground and a soft-serve ice cream truck to the brewery, along with a bilingual children's storytime at BookSpring.
There's a full day of programming. Author signings happen at BookPeople: Deb Olin Unferth at 12 PM, Lauren Hough at 1 PM, and Robert Jackson Bennett at 3 PM. Artist Adrienne Rivers will be live screen printing the 2026 poster from 11 AM to 1 PM. Participating booksellers and organizations include Host Publications, Livra Books, Alienated Majesty Books, BookWoman, Austin Zine Friends, S.E. Wheeler, Finney's Books, The Harry Ransom Center, Blue Jay Vintage Books, Lioness Books, Book Drive for Kids Austin, Reverie Books, Austin Public Library, Austin Used Book Collective, Flutter Romance Bookstore, Red Salmon Arts, and Casa de Resistencia Books.
