A family art adventure with mindfulness, storytime, kaleidoscope crafts and scavenger hunts around the Blanton grounds.
Family Art Adventures: Sound Play takes over the Blanton Museum of Art on Saturday, Nov 14, from 12 PM to 4 PM. It's part of the museum's Family Art Adventures program, which the education team puts together to bring the museum to life with hands-on artmaking, outdoor games, scavenger hunts and interactive activities for curious minds of all ages.
The day is built around a few different tracks you can jump in and out of. Storytime sessions, read aloud by community partner Alienated Majesty Books, run every hour on the hour starting at noon. Creative Encounters and Mindful Moments, also led by community partners, follow on the hour and the half-hour. Between those, there's a steady stream of things to do: face painting, a coloring-page table, a self-guided scavenger hunt and lawn games. This particular edition, Sound Play, adds kaleidoscope crafts and mindfulness to the mix, with the scavenger hunt taking you around the Blanton grounds.
One of the best things about the format is that you don't have to commit to the whole afternoon. You can drop in for a single hour and leave, or stay all day and pack a picnic to enjoy on the grounds. Water and juice are provided while supplies last, so if you're planning to hang out, bringing your own food is a good call.
