A comedy cabaret show hosted by Emma Vauxdevil at the historic Paramount Theatre in downtown Austin.
Emma Vauxdevil presents Cobweb Cabaret at Paramount and Stateside Theatres on Saturday, October 17, a comedy show that lands right in the middle of the city's Halloween season. It's a night of humor hosted by Vauxdevil, with the cabaret itself as the main feature. The show takes place at the Paramount, which is part of the Paramount and Stateside Theatres complex on Congress Avenue.
If you've spent any time downtown, you know the Paramount. It's the oldest surviving theatre in Austin, built in 1915, and it's listed as a City and State Landmark on the National Register of Historic Places. It opened as a Vaudeville and variety house, and it still stages comedy, drama, music, dance, spoken word, children's programming, and films, drawing more than 200,000 patrons a year. It's also one of the few remaining 'hemp houses' in the country, meaning it still works with ropes and sandbags. The theatre is home to the Moontower Comedy Festival and operates alongside the State Theatre next door under the Austin Theatre Alliance, a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
Cobweb Cabaret fits right into that Vaudeville lineage. It's a comedy show presented by Emma Vauxdevil, and with the October date, it's built for the Halloween season. The Paramount has hosted comedy for decades, and this is the next one on the calendar.
