Live taping and listening-room concert by the Elias Haslanger Quartet at Monks Jazz Club.
Elias Haslanger leads his quartet at Monks Jazz Club on Friday, October 16, for a live-taping, listening-room concert. The set draws from Legacy, his recording that's currently getting airplay on radio stations across the US and Canada and streaming worldwide. It's an all-ages show, and the listening-room format means the focus stays on the music rather than the chatter.
Haslanger plays tenor saxophone, and he's joined by Andy Langham on piano, James Suter on bass, and Gerry Gibbs on drums. Chuck Berg of JazzTimes describes him as "a no-nonsense modernist whose Rollins-esque rhythmatics and Coltrane-tinged harmonics surge and soar," and says the group recalls the best bands of Miles Davis, Art Blakey, and Horace Silver. If those names ring a bell, you've got a good sense of the territory they're working in.
