Ecology for Everyone

Ecology for Everyone comes to the Austin Public Library Howson Branch on Saturday, August 15, with graduate students from UT Austin taking the lead. They'll be presenting their research on ecology, evolution, and behavior, so you'll hear from a few different projects rather than just one. It's a chance to see what's actually happening in the labs and in the field over at UT, and to hear it straight from the people doing the work.

If you've ever wondered how ecology, evolution, and behavior tie together, this is a good place to start. The students will be walking through their research, so you'll get a look at the specific questions they're asking and the ways they're going about finding the answers. It's a broad spread—ecology, evolution, and behavior—so the presentations will likely touch on a few different areas of the natural world.

As for the venue, the Howson Branch is over in Tarrytown at 2500 Exposition Blvd. It's been part of the neighborhood since it opened on October 5, 1960, and it didn't come from City funds—it was built from the bequest of Mrs. Emilie Wheelock Howson, whose portrait still hangs on the wall. In 1994, Jean Southerland donated funds for a periodicals reading room, the Louis Southerland Reading Room, which opened in 1996 with a decorative glass partition by Susan Fiedorek and David Heymann under the City's Art in Public Places Programme. The branch sits in Council District 10.

It all kicks off at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 15, at the Austin Public Library Howson Branch, 2500 Exposition Blvd. Admission is free.
