Concert by the stoner rock and psychedelic rock band Earthless at Central Machine Works, with support from Grand Master, Tear Dungeon and Deep Space Family Band.
Earthless play Central Machine Works on Saturday, November 21, with Grand Master, Tear Dungeon and Deep Space Family Band opening. It's a full bill, so you'll have plenty to listen to before the headliner takes the stage.
Earthless is the brainchild of San Diego trio Mario Rubalcaba on drums, Mike Eginton on bass and Isaiah Mitchell on guitar. Rubalcaba is a prolific drummer who has recorded as Ruby Mars with Rocket from the Crypt and played in Hot Snakes, Clikatat Ikatowi and The Black Heart Procession; he was also once part of Tony Alva's Alva Team skateboarding crew. He met Eginton and Mitchell through mutual friends and a shared love of under-the-radar records. The three discovered a mutual admiration for Japanese psychedelic hard rock and primitive '60s garage music and set out to start a Japanese-psychedelic-heavy Krautrock band built on jam, space and what they call "cosmic nodding" music.
That description tells you exactly what to expect: long, sprawling jams that lean into the psychedelic side of things rather than tight, radio-ready songs. It's the kind of music that works best when you let it stretch out, and with three other bands on the bill, the whole afternoon is set up around that. Grand Master, Tear Dungeon and Deep Space Family Band will set the stage before Earthless takes over.
