Due West

Due West is playing at Violet Crown Cinema in downtown Austin from July 23 through July 29, a week-long theatrical run that leads up to its VOD release on July 28. It's a neo-Western billed as a true Texas production, filmed out in the scrubland and deserts around Marathon and Alpine, so if you're into that specific stretch of West Texas landscape, you'll recognize it on screen.

The film is the debut feature from Houston-based writer and director Evan Miller. He didn't do it alone, though: it was produced by Emily Gipson and Caitlin McFarland, the creators of the ATX TV Festival, and edited by Sandra Adair, a longtime collaborator of Richard Linklater. Austin's own Adrianne Palicki is front and center, and co-writer Hardy Janson brings a contemporary twist to classic West Texas imagery. It's a local project through and through, from the Houston direction and Austin production to the West Texas locations.

The theatrical run is essentially a lead-up to the film's VOD release on July 28, so you can catch it in a theater before it hits home screens. The screenings run from July 23 to July 29 at Violet Crown Cinema, 434 W. Second, in downtown Austin.
