Double Vision with Hank Hehmsoth & Dr. John Mills

Double Vision plays The Elephant Room on Tuesday, August 25, at 9 PM. The quartet is co-led by pianist and composer Hank Hehmsoth and saxophonist and flutist John Mills, with Utah Hamrick on bass and Aaron Easley on drums. It's a reunion of Hehmsoth and Mills, who're bringing their original sounds back to the room.

Double Vision is an Austin-based contemporary jazz quartet. They describe their work as a blend of original composition, modern swing, and groove-driven improvisation, with an interdisciplinary streak that pairs jazz with visual art, creative writing, spoken word, and poetry. Beyond the stage, the group runs art-and-sound workshops and concert-lecture programs on jazz history, and they do multi-day residencies. Hehmsoth and Mills have received project support from the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, and the quartet is listed on the Texas Commission on the Arts 2026-2028 Texas Touring Roster.

There's a bit of history here: the group gave its first public performance at The Elephant Room on June 9, 2022. The venue is a classic downtown Austin room known for intimate live music and late-night listening. The show starts at 9 PM on Tuesday, August 25.
