Blackfeather Vintage Works is hosting Double Eternity: A Maggie Cook Polacheck Retrospective on Friday, August 7, a survey of Maggie Cook Polacheck's work that pulls from several different mediums at once. It's not just a painting show, so you'll want to give yourself some time to walk through the whole thing.
The oil paintings are the anchor here, and they're joined by multimedia sculptures and collages. The sculptures bring in a three-dimensional element that changes how you look at the paintings, and the collages sit somewhere in between—flat like the canvases but built from pieces rather than painted from scratch. When you see them all in the same room, you get a sense of how she works across different materials.
One of the more personal parts of the show is the inclusion of her Seventies scrapbooks. They're not paintings or sculptures, but they're in there alongside them, and they give you a glimpse into the kinds of things she's been collecting and keeping for decades. Seeing those alongside the finished work lets you trace a line from the scrapbooks back to the paintings and sculptures.
