Austin's Grateful Dead tribute band performs live at the 29th Street Ballroom.
Deadeye play the 29th Street Ballroom on Friday, September 18, starting at 8 PM. They're an Austin-based Grateful Dead tribute band, and this is a local show in their own backyard.
Guitarist Joe Faulhaber and drummer Shadd Scott started the group back in 2010. Since then, they've built their set around the Grateful Dead's massive catalog, and they've spent the years since their start working their way through it. They describe their approach as mastering that catalog while bringing a fresh, spontaneous, and improvisational energy to the live performances. It's a tribute, but the improvisational side is where the Grateful Dead lived, so that's what they're leaning into here.
Over the years, Deadeye has become a regular fixture of the Central Texas music scene. They've grown into a known quantity around town, recognized for high-energy jams that they say honor the purity and authenticity of the original performances. If you've spent any time with the Dead's live recordings, you know the jam is the whole point, and that's exactly what they're aiming for on stage.
