A vibrant community Day of the Dead celebration with live mariachi, traditional dance, face painting, artisan market and local food vendors at Waterloo Greenway.
Waterloo Greenway is hosting a Día de los Muertos celebration at the Moody Amphitheater in Waterloo Park on Sunday, November 1, from 4 PM to 8 PM. It's presented at no cost, so you can just show up and hang out.
The evening is built around a sequence of performances that run through the night. Mariachi Corazon de Tejas kicks things off at 5 PM, followed by Danza Azteca Guadalupana at 6 PM, and Ballet Folklorico Maricruz at 7 PM. Between the sets, Chris 'Tejanoman' Tristan will be on the decks keeping the music going. The whole thing is presented by Future Front Texas, with support from H-E-B, Austin Subaru, Liquid Death, Siete Foods, Tito's Handmade Vodka, Delta Air Lines, and Estrella Jalisco.
Beyond the stage, there's a community side to the day. Waterloo Greenway frames the celebration as a way to honor the lives and memories of those who have passed, and they invite you to bring photos and mementos to add to the community altars. There's a main ofrenda and a separate pet altar, and both stay on display through the following Monday, so you can come back and visit them later in the week. The rest of the evening mixes dance, music, and hands-on activities.
