Live jazz performance by internationally regarded pianist David Kikoski and his big band at Monks Jazz Club, presented by The Jazz Purveyor.
David Kikoski plays Monks Jazz Club on Monday, August 17, leading a big band. He's a New York pianist who came up in the 1980s playing with Roy Haynes, Bob Berg, and Randy Brecker. He's known for a post-bop style and swinging, spontaneous playing, and he's put out 20 albums as a leader, including Presage (1989), Consequences (2015), Phoenix Rising (2019), and Sure Thing (2021), all on High Note Records.
He's spent a lot of his career playing with some of the biggest names in jazz. He's recorded and toured with Chick Corea, John Scofield, Ravi Coltrane, Chris Potter, Roy Hargrove, and Donny McCaslin. He's also a longtime member of the Charles Mingus Big Band, co-leader of BeatleJazz, and a member of Opus Five. With the Mingus Big Band, he earned Grammy nods for Live at Jazz Standard (2011) and The Centennial Sessions (2024).
The night is presented by The Jazz Purveyor with support from The Live Music Society. It's a listening-room format, which means there's a live taping and a whisper policy in place. If you're not used to that, just keep in mind it's a room where you're expected to listen rather than talk through the set.
