Burlesque class led by touring artist and historian Jolie Goodnight, teaching golden era moves and choreography.
Jolie Goodnight is teaching a burlesque class at the Austin Academy of Burlesque on Tuesday, August 18, from 6:45 PM to 8:15 PM. The session focuses on the golden era of burlesque, and it's open to all levels, so you don't need to have any dance experience to join in.
Goodnight is a touring burlesque artist and a classic burlesque historian, and she brings both those roles to the class. She breaks down the vintage moves step-by-step—the iconic walks, bumps, turns, and other elements that defined the era's legendary superstars—and layers in insights into burlesque history as she goes. There's also a focus on personalization: she shows you how to take those classic moves and adapt them for your own act, rather than just copying them exactly.
Once you've worked through the individual elements, the class moves into a choreographed combination that blends that technique with the style of the classic era. It's a good way to see how the separate pieces fit together into a full routine.
