A beginner-friendly Cumbia dance workshop celebrating Mexican culture through movement and music, part of the Cumbia para MACC series.
Cumbia para MACC is wrapping up its run at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center on Monday, July 27, after running since June 8. It's a beginner-friendly dance workshop that celebrates Mexican culture through movement and music, and it's part of a larger series called Cumbia para MACC: Dance Series with Cumbia Para Todos.
The classes are guided instruction, so you'll build confidence, coordination, and cultural appreciation in a welcoming, community-centered environment. Each session emphasizes self-expression, connection, and the joy of movement, and you don't need any previous dance experience to join in. The series is open to all levels, so it works whether you've never stepped foot on a dance floor or you've been dancing for years.
If you're bringing younger dancers, kids 12 and over can attend as long as a parent or guardian is present. Since it's a workshop and not a drop-in class, places are reserved by RSVP via Eventbrite, so you'll want to grab your spot ahead of time rather than just showing up.

The session runs from 7 PM to 8 PM at the center, located at 600 River St in Austin. This is the final date of the series, which has been running since June 8, so if you've been meaning to try it, this is the last chance to get in.
