Letterpress PLAY is hosting Crafting & Popsicles this Thursday, August 13, from 12 PM to 3 PM at their South Congress bungalow. The premise is simple: you trade the August heat for a cold treat and an afternoon of making things. The popsicles are free.

If you haven't spent time there, Letterpress PLAY is a letterpress studio and retail store on South Congress that opens up hands-on printing to families and adults. It's not just a shop; it's a working space where you can actually get your hands on the presses. Throughout the year, they run themed events like Crafting & Storytime, Reading Wednesday, and Paper Toy Decorating Competitions, with seasonal print events around Valentine's Day, Halloween, and Mother's Day. They've also partnered with local names like the Austin Public Library, Zilker Brewing, and the Austin Marathon, and their Professional Speaker Series has brought in letterpress artists like Paul Soady and Katherine Brimberry.

Crafting & Popsicles is built around the arrival of summer, so the whole thing is framed as a way to escape the heat with a cold popsicle in one hand and a project in the other. It's a drop-in afternoon rather than a formal class, so you can roll in whenever you like between noon and 3 PM.
