Cozy Craft Cinema: Halloweentown

Cozy Craft Cinema brings Halloweentown to the Paramount and Stateside Theatres on Saturday, October 24, with two separate sessions at 1 PM and 6 PM. It's a double-feature of sorts: a screening of the Disney Channel movie paired with a craft session in the lobby.

Halloweentown is a 1998 Disney Channel Original Movie, 84 minutes long and in color. It was directed by Duwayne Dunham and stars Debbie Reynolds, Kimberly J. Brown, Judith Hoag, J. Paul Zimmerman, and Phillip Van Dyke. The story follows Marnie, who discovers she's a witch on her 13th birthday, finds a secret portal, and lands in Halloweentown—a magical realm where ghosts, witches, and werewolves live apart from the human world. Once there, she finds herself battling wicked warlocks, evil curses, and endless surprises.

The craft session happens in the lobby, and you've got a couple of ways to do it: bring your own work-in-progress to keep chipping away at, or shop the lobby vendors for something new to start. It's designed so you can hang out and create before or after the movie.

The Paramount has stood on Congress Avenue in downtown Austin for over a century. Built in 1915, it's the city's oldest surviving theatre and opened as a Vaudeville and variety house; today it stages comedy, drama, music, dance, spoken word, children's programming, and film. It's a City of Austin and State Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and it's also one of the few remaining 'hemp houses' in America, rigged with ropes and sandbags. It's run alongside the State Theatre by The Austin Theatre Alliance, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Doors open at 1 PM and 6 PM for the two sessions.
