An evening of electroacoustic music featuring percussionist Sarah Hennies and double bassist Tristan Kasten-Krause, celebrating their album Prisoner's Cinema.
Sarah Hennies and Tristan Kasten-Krause play KMFA Classical 89.5 on Saturday, October 10, presented by COTFG. Hennies is a percussionist; Kasten-Krause plays double bass. The evening is built around their album Prisoner's Cinema.
They describe their work as large-scale pieces built on drones, psychoacoustic phenomena, and extended double bass techniques. On stage, Hennies plays gongs, bells, vibraphone, and other percussion, setting high-pitched tones against Kasten-Krause's deep bass resonances. It's a duo of extremes—the high and the low—working together rather than against each other.
This is their second full-length record. Their first, The Quiet Sun, came out in 2025 on Dinzu Artefacts. Prisoner's Cinema followed, commissioned in 2025 by the Wassaic Project with a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts; it's also the first release on Hennies' new label, Best Hill. Since then, they've continued to expand: in 2026 they premiered Saccades, a multi-channel electroacoustic piece, at the Groupe de Recherches Musicales in Paris, and they're currently working on a three-hour commission for the 2027 TOPOS Festival at EMPAC in Troy, New York.
