Messa

Messa play the Palmer Events Center on Sunday, September 13, as part of a massive tour that's taking them across the country this fall. They're out on the road behind their new album, The Spin, and the Austin date is one of 54 shows in 51 cities, a run that kicks off August 29 and doesn't wrap up until November 21. It's a heavy schedule, and the Palmer date falls right in the middle of it.

If you're not familiar with them, Messa formed on the first day of 2014. The band describes their sound as 'Scarlet Doom,' a term they use to sum up how they pull from a wide range of backgrounds—prog, black metal, punk, dark ambient, jazz, blues, and doom—and stir them all into one sonic cauldron. It's a lot of ground to cover in a single set, and that variety is exactly what they're bringing to the stage.

With The Spin as the focus of this tour, the set will lean on the new material. It's a doom metal show at its core, so expect the slow, heavy side of things to take center stage, though those other influences—the prog, the jazz, the ambient textures—are what they use to build out the sound. They've been playing these songs live across the US since late August, and the Austin stop is one of the many dates they're hitting on the way through the fall.
