A creative workshop led by Steven Ecker where adults create collages with the theme Life Magazine, focusing on mindfulness and reconnecting with their inner creative child.
Steven Ecker leads Collage & Connect at RichesArt Gallery on Wednesday, August 19, from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM. It's a workshop for adults, and the theme for the night is Life Magazine.
Ecker started Collage & Connect with a specific idea in mind: that too many adults have lost touch with their creativity and believe they don't have a creative bone in their body. He attributes that feeling to the societal narratives that equate creativity only with being a 'traditional' artist. The workshop is meant to push back on that, encouraging people to reclaim their inner creative gifts and reminding them that we're all artists in our own lives. During the session, Ecker guides the group through making a collage while working through mindfulness objectives, reconnecting with their inner creative child and with each other.
The room is one to make a mess in. Music plays in the background, and technology is left at the door, so you can actually focus on what's in front of you. The evening closes with a social touch: attendees write what they like on the back of one another's work. Everyone leaves with a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece they made themselves.
