The City-Wide Vintage Sale returns to the Palmer Events Center this weekend, running Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19. It's Austin's largest vintage market, and it's one of those things that's been a part of the city's fabric for a long time—it's been running since 1977, back when it was called the City-Wide Garage Sale. If you've been around Austin for a while, you probably know it by that old name, but the scale is the same: 45,000 square feet of vintage vendors under one roof.
That footprint is what sets it apart from the smaller pop-ups and flea markets you'll find around town. With 45,000 square feet to cover, it's a full afternoon's commitment rather than a quick stop. You'll find a wide range of vendors bringing in everything from mid-century furniture and old clothing to collectibles and home goods, all spread across the Palmer's main floor. Because it's a recurring market, the vendors change from one edition to the next, so what you find this time around won't be the same as what was there last time.
The sale runs both Saturday and Sunday, so you've got two days to work through it. If you're looking for the best selection, Saturday is usually the day to go early, before the most sought-after pieces get picked over. If you're more of a browser, Sunday can be a bit slower, which makes it easier to take your time without the crowds. Either way, you'll want to leave some room in your car for whatever you end up hauling home.
