Live taping and listening-room concert, a tribute to Burt Bacharach by the Cicely Renée Jones Quintet.
Cicely Renee Jones brings a tribute to Burt Bacharach to Monks Jazz Club on Wednesday, August 5. It's a live-taping, listening-room concert, so the room is set up for listening rather than socializing, and the performance is being recorded.
Jones is a jazz and contemporary vocalist who's been working in Austin since 2000, when she started with the Hot Wax Motown Band. Since then, she's sung backup for The Mudd Catts Elvis Presley Impersonator Band and fronted the CC Jones Quartet and the Royal Dukes Wedding Party Band. She's also appeared in tributes like Celebrating Women In Jazz, Motown 65, and the Star Spangled Cabaret. Outside the club, she's volunteered her voice for the Austin Miss America Pageant, the Texas Special Olympics, the Wesley United Methodist Church Intergenerational Choir, and the Combined Law Enforcement Association of Texas (CLEAT).
For this set, she's leading a quintet. The lineup is Marco Antonio Santos on guitar, Josh Meadows on piano, Chris Jones on bass, and Mike Gordon on drums. With a full rhythm section and both piano and guitar, the group has the instrumentation to handle Bacharach's sophisticated melodies and shifting time signatures.
