An evening of jazz with the Austin group Church on Monday, led by saxophonist Elias Haslanger, at The Continental Club Gallery.
Church on Monday is back at The Continental Club Gallery on Monday, September 7, from 8:30 to 10 PM. It's a jazz set led by saxophonist Elias Haslanger, and it's part of a residency that's become one of the longest-running live music runs in Austin.
The band's name comes from a song Haslanger wrote for his fifth recording as a leader, which he put together in the fall of 2011. That track became the title of the record, and after it spent eleven weeks on the JazzWeek charts and picked up positive reviews in Downbeat and Jazz Times, Haslanger secured the residency at the Gallery. Thirteen years later, the song and the recording have given the band its name, and the Monday night slot has stuck.
Since then, the group has picked up five Austin Music Awards and played at ACL Live at The Moody Theater, along with other dates across Texas. They've released three critically acclaimed recordings, and they dedicate their music to the memory of Dr. James Polk.
