An evening of jazz with Elias Haslanger, frontman of the Austin band Church on Monday, at The Continental Club Gallery.
Church on Monday is back at The Continental Club Gallery this Monday, July 27. It's a residency that's become a bit of an Austin fixture: they've played the same room every Monday for more than a decade, and people still line up outside the club for it.
The band was formed by jazz artist Elias Haslanger in the fall of 2011 for his fifth recording as a leader. They took their name from an original composition he wrote for that session, which became the title track of the record. That album spent 11 weeks on the JazzWeek charts and drew positive reviews in Downbeat and Jazz Times, and it was on the back of that momentum that Haslanger secured the residency at the Gallery.
Since then, the group has picked up five Austin Music Awards and played across Texas, with dates at ACL Live at The Moody Theater and jazz spots like The Elephant Room and Parker Jazz Club. They've put out three critically acclaimed recordings, and the band is dedicated to the memory and legacy of the late Dr. James Polk.

It's a Monday night tradition that's been running since the early 2010s, so if you've never caught them, this is as good a time as any. The set runs from 8:30 to 10 PM, and cover is $10.
