Acoustic country-rock concert by Chuck Prophet, featuring a quartet set with reimagined songs from his extensive catalog.
Chuck Prophet plays The 04 Center on Sunday, August 16, at 8 PM. He's performing as a quartet, with Stephanie on piano, Mike Anderson on upright bass, and Sean Nelson on drums. It's an acoustic country-rock set, and the songs he'll be playing are stripped-down, reimagined versions of tracks from across his catalog.
Prophet is a California native who spent his early years in the neo-psych band Green on Red before going solo in 1990. Since then, he's put out more than a dozen records, and his songs have been covered by Bruce Springsteen, Solomon Burke, and Heart, and have appeared in plenty of films and TV shows. Rolling Stone once called him a "streetwise city kid with an eye for the country," and NPR noted his knack for turning tales from the outer limits into catchy songs. His latest record, Wake The Dead, takes a turn into Cumbia music.
For this particular show, though, the focus is on the acoustic side of things. Rather than a full-band electric set, he's bringing a quartet that trades the usual country-rock volume for something more stripped-back. The set draws from his whole catalog, so you'll hear songs from different eras of his career reworked for this smaller lineup. It's a different way of hearing his material than the full-band versions he's known for.
