Author Chuck Klosterman presents his book 'ROCK*', a what-if experiment on the Velvet Underground and the Beatles, in a chat with Mitch Baranowski.
Chuck Klosterman is coming to BookPeople on Tuesday, September 22, for an author chat about his new project, ROCK*. He'll be joined by Mitch Baranowski, the founder of Thunderhouse, the publisher behind the book.
ROCK* is a what-if experiment that swaps the cultural impact of the Velvet Underground and the Beatles. It imagines a world where the Velvets drove the mainstream and the Beatles remained the underground alternativeโthe opposite of how it actually went down. If you've spent any time thinking about how those two bands shaped the music we listen to, that's exactly the kind of premise this one plays with. The evening is set up as a conversation between Klosterman and Baranowski, so you'll get to hear them talk through the idea and the work that went into it.

It's presented by BookPeople, and the talk takes place at their downtown location, 603 N. Lamar. The session starts at 7 PM. Admission is free, but you do need to register via Eventbrite to get in, so it's worth grabbing your spot ahead of time rather than just showing up. If you're into music history, alternative histories, or just Klosterman's particular way of looking at things, this is one to have on your radar for a Tuesday night downtown.
