Austin-based blues and jazz artist Chris Bell performs as The Belltower at the Austin Marriott South.
Chris Bell, performing as The Belltower, plays the Austin Marriott South on Thursday, October 1, at 1 PM. He's an Austin-based guitarist, singer, and educator who's been playing and teaching blues and jazz in the city for the last 25 years, and he's also an international touring artist. His repertoire covers guitar blues, New Orleans second line, Texas blues, and guitar jazz.
Bell has shared the stage with a long list of names from the jazz and blues worlds: Jason Marsalis, Johnny Vidacovich, Chris Thomas, Ernie Durawa, Floyd Domino, Mike Buck, John Mills, Butch Miles, Nick Curran, David Hamburger, Kaz Kazanoff, Greg Izor, Emilio Arsuaga, Bret Coats, and Jay Moeller. He's released five recordings as a leader.
He's as much a teacher as a performer. He holds a Master's Degree in Music Composition from Texas State University and worked as a clinician for the Austin Independent School District's LASA High School jazz band. He also worked as a clinician for the 2023 'Let's Get Jazzed' event, which featured jazz legend Don Braden, and he taught guitar at The Austin School of Music from 2002 to 2012.
