Charlie Mars plays The Saxon Pub on Saturday, October 24, at 8 PM. He's a folk and rock songwriter who writes from a gravel county road in the hill country of Yalobusha County, Mississippi, where he settled after leaving Oxford. He arrived with a Brazilian Cane Corso Mastiff he called Kudzu and found a piece of land with a view and a house in which to write songs about his life.
His album Times Have Changed brought together ten songs produced by Billy Harvey and mixed by Tchad Blake, and came out on Foxgate Records. He filmed a video for "Country Home" featuring the Brown family, local dairy farmers, and turned it into a documentary called Beautiful Country. He co-wrote "Silver Dollar" with Tyler Reeve and "To See You Smile" with David Borne, and penned "Don't You Want to Know Me" with Union Station's Dan Tyminski, a tune Alison Krauss has recorded.
