Live music featuring CHAPARRAL, Jeff Hughes, and Tracie Lynn at the historic Broken Spoke dancehall venue.
CHAPARRAL and Tracie Lynn are playing the Broken Spoke on Thursday, September 17, as part of a weekly series that runs every Thursday from September 3 through October 29. It's a two-act night split between the restaurant and the dancehall, so you can make a whole evening of it.
Tracie Lynn takes the early slot in the restaurant from 6 PM to 8 PM, and CHAPARRAL follows in the dancehall starting at 9 PM. If you're coming for the full run, the restaurant set is the easy entry point: dinner and a show with no cover. The dancehall set is where the night shifts gears, and since it's a Thursday, you've got plenty of other dates in the series to choose from if this particular one doesn't fit your schedule.
There's a bit of a local connection here. CHAPARRAL and Jeff Hughes are both from Austin, and Tracie Lynn hails from Portland, Texas. The Broken Spoke itself is a South Austin fixture, established in 1964 by James M. White and billed as the 'Last of the True Texas Dancehalls.' It's known for pairing homestyle meals—the chicken fried steak is the one people talk about—with a dance floor, and it offers two-step lessons Wednesday through Saturday from 8 PM to 9 PM.

If you're planning to go, keep the timing in mind. Tracie Lynn plays the restaurant from 6 PM to 8 PM with no cover, and CHAPARRAL takes over the dancehall at 9 PM. The two-step lessons run from 8 PM to 9 PM, right in the gap between the two sets, so you can get some dancing in before the dancehall music kicks off.
