Live dancehall music performance by CHAPARRAL, Jeff Hughes, and Tracie Lynn at the historic Broken Spoke venue.
CHAPARRAL are back at the Broken Spoke on Thursday, July 23, with Jeff Hughes on the bill. It's one of several dates they're playing at the venue this month: they also play on July 16 and July 30, so if you can't make this one, you've got two more chances before the month is up.
For those who haven't spent much time there, the Broken Spoke is a South Austin landmark at 3201 S. Lamar Blvd, billed as the 'Last of the True Texas Dancehalls' and open since 1964. It's a live music venue that serves homestyle meals, and its chicken fried steak is the one most people talk about. The place is built around the dance floor, and it's a good spot to spend a few hours if you're in the mood for a night of Texas country and two-stepping.
If you're looking to do more than just listen, the Spoke runs two-step dance lessons Wednesday through Saturday from 8 PM to 9 PM, with the dancehall opening at 7:15 PM. They also host dinner-and-show nights Tuesday through Saturday from 6 PM to 8 PM with no cover, where bands play for tips. It's the kind of place where you can come early for a meal, stay for a lesson, and then settle in for the music.
