Chanpan performs live on their autogratis North American Tour, supported by SHEBAD, at the historic Brushy Street Commons venue.
Chanpan play Brushy Street Commons on Sunday, September 20, as part of their autogratis North American Tour. They're an Asian American trio from New York City, fronted by Grace Dumdaw and identical twins Lance and Matthew Tran. This is their first-ever headline tour, and the Austin stop falls on a Sunday night.
They didn't start in a studio. The band began by busking the streets of Chinatown, and from there they grew through viral videos. That trajectory has earned them a few nods along the way: Vogue called them a "very cool New York band," they've been featured in The New York Times T Magazine, and they've landed a spot on Live Nation's Ones to Watch. This tour is the first time they're taking the lead on a full run across North America.
They aren't the only ones on the bill. SHEBAD opens the night, so there are two acts to catch. The show runs from 8 PM to 9 PM, and the venue is Brushy Street Commons at 501 Brushy St in East Austin.

If you've never been, the room has a bit of history behind it. Brushy Street Commons sits inside the soundstage of the historic 501 Studios building, a space that serves food and drinks by day and live music by night. Over thirty years of local history line the walls: it was the set of countless national commercials, and Austin legends Stevie Ray Vaughan and Willie Nelson both filmed music videos there. Universal Pictures used the stage for the 1981 film Raggedy Man, starring Sissy Spacek and Eric Roberts, and the Texas Lottery drew and broadcast its million-dollar winners from the room for more than a decade. It's a New York band playing in a room that's seen a lot of Austin music pass through.
