Author Chang-rae Lee appears at BookPeople to discuss his novel 'A Tender Age' in conversation with Roger Reeves.
Chang-rae Lee is coming to BookPeople on Friday, August 14, for a conversation about his new novel, A Tender Age. He'll be sitting down with Roger Reeves on the second floor of the bookstore, and the whole thing runs about 45 to 60 minutes. It's free and open to the public, so you don't need a ticket to get in.
A Tender Age is a story about guilt, innocence, and a boy on the cusp of adolescence. It follows Jeon-Gi, a Korean-American whose summer at age eleven draws him into events that reverberate far beyond his family. The book has already been named one of the most anticipated of 2026 by the New York Times, Goodreads, and Literary Hub, so this is one of the first chances to hear Lee talk about it in person.
If you're not already familiar with his work, Lee has a long track record. He wrote Native Speaker, which won the Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award for first fiction, as well as On Such a Full Sea, A Gesture Life, Aloft, and The Surrendered, which won the Dayton Peace Prize and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. In 2021, he received the Award of Merit for the Novel from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. When he isn't writing, he teaches writing at Stanford University.
