Holistic and accessible yoga class for adults of all ages focusing on flexibility, strength, and balance through adaptive yoga.
Aging is Cool is hosting a chair yoga class at the Austin Public Library Windsor Park Branch on Wednesday, August 26, from 10 AM to 11 AM. It's a holistic and accessible session open to adults of all ages, so it works whether you're coming on your own or bringing a friend.
The class focuses on flexibility, strength, and balance through adaptive yoga, gentle poses, and breathwork. Because it's chair yoga, the movements are modified to be done while seated, making it a good entry point if you've never done yoga before or if you're looking for a practice that's easier on the joints. The chairs are provided, so you don't need to bring your own. They recommend wearing closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing you can move in.
The venue is the Windsor Park Branch, located at 5833 Westminster Dr in Austin. If you've never been, the branch opened on July 15, 2000, though library services have been serving the area since the late 1950s, when bookmobiles delivered to the Windsor Village Shopping Center on Berkman Drive. In 1963, that was followed by the Windsor Village Station, and the permanent building only came after a 1992 bond issue funded six new branches. When you walk in, you're greeted by Paul Bond's bronze sculpture Reading Between the Lions, part of the Austin Art in Public Places program.
