40th anniversary screening of Hayao Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky, with Japanese and English voice cast, as part of Studio Ghibli Fest.
Castle in the Sky is coming to Cinepolis USA, NW Austin on Saturday, August 22, as part of the Studio Ghibli Fest. It's a 40th anniversary screening of Hayao Miyazaki's animated feature, which is an Academy Award winner and described as a timeless story of courage and friendship. The film runs 2 hours and 9 minutes and is rated PG.
The story follows Pazu, who spots a girl named Sheeta floating down from the sky, held aloft by a glowing pendant. Together they set out to find the legendary floating castle Laputa, all while being pursued by air pirates, the military, and secret government agents. It's one of Miyazaki's most adventurous works, and seeing it on a big screen is a different experience than watching it at home.
One of the best things about this screening is that you get to hear both versions of the cast. The English-language version features the voices of Anna Paquin, James Van Der Beek, Cloris Leachman, Mark Hamill, and Mandy Patinkin. The original Japanese cast includes Keiko Yokozawa, Mayumi Tanaka, and Minori Terada. If you've only ever seen one or the other, this is a good chance to catch up on both.
