Carolyn Wonderland plays an unplugged set at Riverbend Centre for the Arts on Thursday, September 3, as part of The Chapel Concert Series. She'll be performing her album Truth Is, released on Alligator Records, and Ruel Thomas opens the night.
Wonderland is an Austin native, a Texas blues singer and guitarist who's been playing professionally since she was 15. She's shared stages with Townes Van Zandt, Levon Helm, Buddy Guy, Hubert Sumlin, Bob Dylan, and John Mayall. She describes her music as original, bluesified, cosmic soul with heavy doses of Tex-Mex and riff-fueled rock 'n' roll.
Truth Is is built around her guitar fingerpicking and full-throated, vulnerable vocals. The songs are vivid and instantly memorable, and hearing them unplugged puts the focus on the songwriting and the voice rather than the full-band sound. It's a good way to get a closer look at the record.
