Concert by the hardcore punk and doom metal band Cancerslug at the Austin venue Kick Butt Coffee.
Cancerslug plays Kick Butt Coffee on Thursday, September 3, with the show starting at 7 PM. It's a single-band bill, so the whole night belongs to them.
If you're not familiar, Cancerslug is Alex Story's project, and it sits right at the intersection of hardcore punk and doom. That's a fair bit of ground to cover in one set—the fast, aggressive side of punk meeting the slow, heavy weight of doom—and the two sounds pull in opposite directions. It's the kind of thing that works best when you're in the room rather than listening through a speaker.
The venue is Kick Butt Coffee, located at 5775 Airport Blvd in a strip center on Airport Boulevard. It's been locally owned and operated since 2008 by Thomas R. Gohring, who graduated from AISD, ACC, and UT. The place regularly books punk bands and comedy talent, and it's the home of the Altercation Comedy Festival. The Austin Chronicle once called it one of the city's best-kept secrets and named it its Coolest Venue.
