Concert by Buenos Diaz, the blues rock and indie project of Austin guitarist and songwriter Nick Diaz.
Buenos Diaz plays Central Market North on Thursday, October 1, with the show starting at 6:30 PM. It's the project of Austin guitarist and songwriter Nick Diaz, and he's bringing a full band for this one: Dana Marie, Sam Powell, and Josh Halpern.
If you've come across the name but aren't sure where the sound lands, it's a mix of blues, alt-rock, soul, and Latin influences. The Austin Chronicle called it swaggering garage rock, and KUTX named one of his tracks Song of the Day. That blend makes sense when you look at where Diaz has spent his time: he's shared the stage with Alejandro Escovedo, Del Castillo, John Baumann, and Rosie Flores, and he's toured extensively in Argentina and Mexico. Those Latin American dates sit right alongside the Texas blues and rock he's known for here.
Diaz has spent more than a decade building a reputation as one of the city's most versatile performers, and this lineup brings that out in a live setting. With a full band behind him, the set pulls from that same blues-rock and indie territory he's been working in. It's a good chance to hear the project as a group rather than as a solo act.
