Buenos Diaz

Buenos Diaz play The Saxon Pub on Thursday, July 30, from 10 PM to 11:30 PM. They're a blend of blues, indie, alt-pop, and rock, and the set is built around frontman Nick Diaz's self-guided musical education and years of travel. His influences run from Gustavo Cerati to the Velvet Underground, and you can hear that range in how the band moves between styles.

They've had some reach beyond the local scene. Two of their songs, "Half Full" and "Through The Clouds," landed ad placements with Nike, Amazon, and PNC Bank, and they've put up more than 500,000 Spotify streams. In Austin, they were named an SXSW Showcasing Artist every year from 2018 through 2023. In 2023, they picked up both The Live Music Fund and Elevate Grants from the City of Austin for Confesiones De Invierno, their album sung in Spanish.

Local critics have described them in a few different ways: The Austin Chronicle called it "swaggering garage rock," while The Static Dive went with "lo-fi alt-pop." That gap—between the garage rock and the lo-fi pop—is a good way to get a sense of where they sit. It's a sound that pulls from a few different places at once, and the Spanish-language record adds another layer to the mix.
